A Heartbeat of God - Cross
11 x 7 Solid Mahogany. Carved and colored red.
[ Psalm 108 ] [ A song. A psalm of David. ] My heart, O God, is steadfast; I will sing and make music with all my soul.
I first made this cross for my oldest son. He was born with reversal of the great vessels in 2001. Within hours of being born he was on a plane far away from us for open heart Surgery. Everyday after his surgery has been a celebration to us. There is not a day that goes by that I don’t thank God for him.
After his surgery it was all about his heart. For a critical moment during surgery they restarted his heart. Because I knew this happened I never stopped watching his heart monitor after that. Everyday I watched those lines and listened to his heart. I wanted to hear nothing else in this world but his Heartbeat. It was the most beautiful song I have ever heard too. The beat was perfect.
I know I thanked God right after I hung up the phone after they told me he was out of surgery. But, I can’t remember thanking that young doctor who has been praised for the job he did repairing Daniel’s heart. I can’t remember thanking the nurses in that NICU for their vigilant dedication to my son. I know I thanked them, I just can’t remember hearing myself do it because I could hear nothing but the beat of his heart.. God gave him this heart for a reason. God gave that doctor those unmatched skills for a reason. God gave those nurses the compassion, the dedication, and the skills to keep him alive and care for his every need.
I made this cross as a thank you for those God saves. For those God gives the skills to save. Because Daniel’s heartbeat is a beautiful song. The Soul of my Son sings for everyone to hear now. Thank you God for giving us all a song in our Hearts and Soul. It has a perfect beat.
