Live Oak Tree of Life Cross
12.5x8.25 Solid Abrosia Maple or Walnut
Isaiah 61:2-3 NLV
2 He has sent me to tell those who mourn
that the time of the Lord’s favor has come,
and with it, the day of God’s anger against their enemies.
3 To all who mourn in Israel,
he will give a crown of beauty for ashes,
a joyous blessing instead of mourning,
festive praise instead of despair.
In their righteousness, they will be like great oaks
that the Lord has planted for his own glory.
I grew up under Live Oak Trees just like this. I have done my best to capture the beauty and complexity of this evergreen creation of God.
The tree is first carved into the wood. Each and every leaf are then carved in. I put It under a light flame to define the edges of the leaves and burn off any small burrs. The trunk and limbs are stained first with three shades of stain to show the definition of the tree itself. The leaves are painted with three shades of green to give depth. It is sealed and sprayed before going over each leaf with a high gloss lacquer. I then go back and highlight areas of the leaves and trunk with an ink mix to give yet more depth.
