Oak of Righteousness in Red Standing

Isaiah 61:2-3 NLV
2 He has sent me to tell those who mourn
that the time of the Lord’s favor has come,
and with it, the day of God’s anger against their enemies.
3 To all who mourn in Israel,
he will give a crown of beauty for ashes,
a joyous blessing instead of mourning,
festive praise instead of despair.
In their righteousness, they will be like great oaks
that the Lord has planted for his own glory.
This Oak of Righteousness Cross is made of Spalted Maple. This wood comes from a Maple that is often found fallen in the woods many years after it fell. Reusing this wood brings it new life! The Tree’s shape and intertwining branches were inspired by a Live Oak I grew up and lived under for 37 years. Growing up in Florida we do not see much color change in Fall. It is a rare and beautiful gift of God to me when I travel and get to see the striking fall colors. To me it’s not a time of something’s end but rather a preparation for what is next. I have done my best to capture that short time when a tree puts on this beautiful Autumn splendor by painting each leaf in these red hues by hand. Over 8 different stain and paint colors are used to detail this Oak of Righteousness. I finish the cross to a satin sheen and then gloss the leaves to give them even more depth.
God is always preparing us for what is next. There will be a day in heaven when the despair of this world will be replaced with praise.
